I do believe that 1977 is a pretty good year for the Dead. I think '77 may be my favorite year. As a whole it has some highlights that are hard to beat. I am putting out my top 6 for the year.
2/26
2/27
5/7
5/8
6/7
6/9

I will make it a top 10 when I get some more time.
Peace and I hope everyone has a grateful day.

Serious? OK, I'll try:

2-26-77
5-8-77
5-15-77
5-25-77
11-4-77

That's me. Have I listened to every 77 show start to finish so as to make a complete review? Nope, but I'm working on it.

I had a very hard time leaving those last 3 of yours off my own list.

5-25 especially--the butter show.

5-25
Also notable, I beleive, for the longest period of time Donna not only remained on-key, but also hurt the fewest number of cats during one show in the band's entire career.

Butter show? I don't think I've heard it called this or the story behind it. Do tell.

No real story per se, I'm afraid...it's more of a description of the 5-25 Mosque show, which like no other I know, is smooth like butter.

The show has this incredibly mellow vibe to it--all the songs, especially in the first set, sound effortless, and flow beautifully. Listen to the "They Love Each Other" for a good example, or the Scarlet>Fire.

As noted above, Donna does indeed sound more in synch vocally than usual...blending much better w/Jerry, instead of singing "over" him as she often does.

It's a great show--if not a "scorcher", like some others later in the year or earlier that month...but I think you'll agree after listening, that it's like butter.

ahh the mosque, i once lived a block from this cool little theater now known as the landmark , and happened to attend that show, sadly enough i remembered very little of it by the next day and even less now....but i have it on cd and it is a great show.

I listened to it last night to see if I could detect any butter and sure enough it was 100% pure organic butter. Smooooooooth. Good description. I was hoping it wasn't like the mescaline show and they were all hopped up on pats of butter.

First off, this is a highly overrated band and I don't see what you people are always screaming about. Sure, they've got long, intricate and psychedellic jams, amazing musicianship, energy through the roof and a highly diverse and dedicated fan base. Besides that, they've got nothin'. And as for prime examples of the sludge they produced over 30 years, 1977 produced some of the finest examples of filth I've ever witnessed.

All nice examples of sarcasm!

#2. 5/9/77
#3. 5/8/77
#4. 6/9/77
#5. 12/29/77 (available on Dicks Picks #10)

It has become rather embarrassing.

I'm waiting for someone to ask why I just don't marry it, or something equally as clever.
